Remember back when you were in grade school? When you stayed up late to finish that book report or essay that was due the next day? You would bring it to school all bound in a nice cover and hand it in to your teacher, you were so proud of it, you thought you would receive an A+ on it! Only to get it back a few days later with all sorts of grammatical errors with a C or worse as a mark. After reading the corrected paper it all made sense, didn’t it? You wanted to kick yourself for making such mistakes!
Well back then, there was no spell and Grammar Check, actually there was and it was called your teacher, editor or proofreader. There was no internet, not for public use anyway. In addition, there were no personal computers to check your work, not one that you could fit in your house anyway. You could send your paper off to Caltech to be proofread but that wouldn’t make any sense would it?
Now with the internet, personal computers and all the rest of the little gadgets we just can’t live without today, there is no real reason not to do a spell and Grammar Check. Even if you’re English major, it only takes a few seconds now to double-check your work! It is especially important to do a spelling and Grammar Check in the work force. There is NOTHING more degrading than handing your boss a paper that you have not checked for correctness, if you don’t do it, I guarantee you’ll be the talk of the office all week!
It just makes common sense to do a spelling and Grammar Check, it takes no time at all these days! Everything you need is just a click or the touch of a button away, there is no need to embarrass yourself anymore!
